The factory Harman Kardon Premium Audio System in the Golf 8 GTI/R is supposed to be “premium” sound quality.
However, this was not the case when it was leaving customers disappointed and wanting more.
Customers found themselves upgrading to a Fender subwoofer, changing the coding in the amplifier module to “Beats” claiming it makes it better. Which may do something.
BUT, with this custom amplifier tuning, it will make the Harman Kardon actually worth something!
Tuning was done using a calibrated RTA microphone and a good amount of time spent tweaking to ear based on my custom system. Now obviously this amplifier and the speakers used have lots of limitations so it is not anything compared to a custom audio setup or aftermarket amplifier/system. Tuning was done with an all around sound in mind vs a more focused or specific sound. This is about as good as the system can be without making physical hardware changes.

In addition to this tuning, poly-fill can be used to fill the subwoofer box. This will help improve the lows and make the subwoofer seem as if it is in a larger enclosure.

It’s a good improvement, I’m not an audiophile but I like that the music sounds good and OEM set-up is a deception, with this coding, the sound is really good, the mid in oem are intolerable but now are ok, you can hear detailed sound, same sound curve when you increase the volume, like it was said before, it don’t make a miracle because of the limit of the system but it’s a great upgrade.
The only thing is that I don’t like the sound with the flat EQ like it’s recommend but with my EQ setting, it sounds really good
My major concern was that I don’t speak English very well but the guy was very comprehensible and if you have good skill with English reading, don’t fear, it was very easy and so fast, it takes only 15 minutes for 2 coding with a basic note book pc, you don’t need a super PC And if VW erase the coding, it was lifetime warranty and you don’t need to do a back-up like it was specified on the site, ACM have the back-up for you

I was on an old software revision where my sound settings didn’t change - so, I was still cycling through the different settings each start up and the change wasn’t immediately apparent. But after updating the software to the latest revision and living with the H&K improve I can tell a definite improvement in sound quality. Well worth the (relative) small amount of money and short time to do this coding with ACM Technik. Highly recommended verging on necessary for MK8s.

Night and day difference with the sound. It’s definitely a worthy update to the tin can sound it would produce. Don’t expect lossless atmos quality sound. Overall worth the purchas

One time, an audiophile asked me why I tolerated listening to the absolute GARBAGE that is the MK8 Golf R audio system. I told them sheepishly that I planned on selling the car, but couldn't find a buyer (thanks a LOT VW) due to the horrendous ear torture that VW calls "a sound system", fortunately, I found ACM Technik, and they told me that they could fix that for me. Now, I don't even WANT to sell my car. Neighbors now rent time in my car ($50.00 / hr) listening to ocean sounds instead of going to the beach. It's that good.
