This is the European ECE LED IQ Matrix Beam Headlight Retrofit Kit for the MK8 Golf GTI w/ the Red Stripe.

Everything is Drop Shipped from the suppliers.

Included in the kit is:

The Driver and Passenger Side ECE LED Matrix Beam Headlights.
The Daytime Running Light Modules for each headlight.
The VAS 5054A cable required for programming.
The Programming of the Headlights once installed.
Programming of Full Matrix LED Functionality as it is required for use with these headlights.

OEM headlight units are factory headlights from VW Europe. Does not include Power Modules. Original Power Modules from Stock Headlights MUST BE SWAPPED OVER.

OE Aftermarket headlights are units from FAW-Volkswagen (VW China). Does include new Power Modules.

Please note, this kit does not include all the items necessary to replace the reflector headlights on 2022 S trim GTIs. Additionally, matrix functionality is only available for vehicles that already have auto high beam functionality. If you do not have auto high beams, we cannot enable matrix functionality.

What's all the hype?

Here in the North American Region, the headlights on our vehicles are regulated on how bright they can be, how the turn signal can function, and other factors. However, over in Europe and other regions, those factors are not as heavily regulated. That being said, these headlights provide extra functionality compared to those in North America.

Differences:

The Turn Signal is Dynamic (Sequential)
The overall brightness (light output) is greater.
The Matrix Functionality is a lot smoother and more prominent.
Allows for travel mode selection.
The Low Beam has a more traditional style cutoff with a Step Up to the Right.
Activates the Dynamic Cornering function.
Deletes the Amber Side Marker light
The overall functionality of the headlight itself is just better.

These headlights will work on

2022+ GTI Autobahn
2022+ GTI SE/Canadian Autobahn
2023+ GTI S/Canadian Base, and 2023 40th GTIs
2022 GTI S/Canadian Base with Retrofit found here: MK8 IQ Headlight Retrofit, however the Full Matrix Functionality will not unless the vehicle has the Auto High Beams.
Full Matrix Functionality WILL ONLY WORK on the GTI Autobahn (US), Canadian 40th’s (with Auto High Beam option), and Canadian Performance models.

Lock When Leaving MK8

When I bought my North American Golf 8 R, I was disappointed to find out that the IQ Matrix headlights were not the same as the European ones but after getting this coding modification, the Matrix headlights have greatly improved over what they previously used to be able to do. I want to thank Anthony and his team at ACM Technik for finding an alternative solution to this dilemma instead of having to spend over $5000 for the European IQ Matrix headlights retrofit.

Good so far

Installed earlier today and seems to work without issue. But I did want to add some extra details to assist others with installation.

If you unhook the battery without engaging the steering wheel lock, it won't engage. If you can park on a relatively smooth surface, it isn't too hard to turn the wheel without power steering.

1. Cycle the ignition, put the steering wheel into the first position (see their videos). Turn off the vehicle without engaging the lock (get out without turning the wheel at all).

2. Unhook the negative terminal, its a 10 mm. I like to wrap the harness size with a towel to make sure it won't get bumped back on.

3. Go back to the car and unhook the left and right airbag clips. The access hole is really close to the bottom of the wheel. You only need to do the two sides, the bottom will just hinge and fall out.

4. I don't unplug the airbag itself, just set it out of the way. Free the wiring from below the aluminum part of the wheel. Lift the back portion of the module and push it backwards to get it out.

5. Swap parts and re-assemble in the reverse order.
