The factory Harman Kardon Premium Audio System in the Golf 8 GTI/R is supposed to be “premium” sound quality.
However, this was not the case when it was leaving customers disappointed and wanting more.
Customers found themselves upgrading to a Fender subwoofer, changing the coding in the amplifier module to “Beats” claiming it makes it better. Which may do something.
BUT, with this custom amplifier tuning, it will make the Harman Kardon actually worth something!
Tuning was done using a calibrated RTA microphone and a good amount of time spent tweaking to ear based on my custom system. Now obviously this amplifier and the speakers used have lots of limitations so it is not anything compared to a custom audio setup or aftermarket amplifier/system. Tuning was done with an all around sound in mind vs a more focused or specific sound. This is about as good as the system can be without making physical hardware changes.

In addition to this tuning, poly-fill can be used to fill the subwoofer box. This will help improve the lows and make the subwoofer seem as if it is in a larger enclosure.

Programming Requirements
1. Computer or Android phone (Laptop is preferred, but desktop may be used if you can place it near your car for the process)
- Windows: 7, 8, 10, or 11
- macOS: 10.15 or newer. Must have Apple silicon processor. Intel-based Macs do not work.
- Linux: Ubuntu 20.04 or newer
Android: 5.0 or newer. Device must allow USB device sharing and have USB-C.

3. A stable internet connection

Seriously, what a night and day difference. Before felt like I needed the volume to be above 50-60% before I’d be able to get any “drive” out of my speakers, and even then, it would sound thin and weak. After the coding change, even at 25% volume, the sound is so much clearer with some punch to it.

This upgrade along with a sub swap makes the hk actually sound like a premium system. Well worth the money and now I have the necessary cable for any future upgrades I might want to do. Ryan was very cool to talk to and rescheduled my appointment on the fly when UPS didn’t get the cable delivered ontime. I can’t recommend this this audio system tune (lol pun intended) or ACM Texhnik enough they are great!

This software made the Mk8 Golf R HK sound system sound good! Coming from the Mk7.5 Fender sound, I was big sad about the sound system in my 2024 R. After Anthony worked his magic, the bass actually bumps, the mid is rounded out nicely, and the high is WAY better- no longer tinny and gross. Anthony was awesome to work with, and the result is amazeballs! Well worth the cost.
